Weekly Challenge #387: "UMT - HaWy by Holly Atwater, CZT"

What a complicated tangle we had to use for this week's challenge. It's called HaWy by Holly Atwater. On her blog you can read how she got intrigued by a pattern her friend shared with her. She deconstructed the pattern and HaWy was born. It took me a while to get the hang of it.

I made a second attempt:
To tell you the truth this is not my favorite tangle but it was fun!

Weekly Challenge #386 - "Pick up where you left off"

That is so true. You can always go back and touch up an unfinished art project. Saying  is one thing but doing is another.  So this week's theme is a good push to finish an abandoned tile: Look for an unfinished tile and breathe some new life into it.....
I found one which I didn't like,  it was left in a stash of some more unfinished tiles. Time to at least finish this one.

I started with good spirit but messed up on the  second part of the CB5 tangle. Didn't work out good so I almost put it back but then this popped up in my head: There Are No Mistakes in Zentangle!! It doesn't have to be perfect! So I just used a background filler with lines/aura's and that worked out well.
Here is my finished tile:

Tangles used: CB5, Y-ful-power, Atura and Boing

Weekly Challenge #383: "New Official tangle: Ratoon"

Ratoon was on my to-try-list so this challenge gave me a push to work on it this week. First seeing Ratoon  I thought it looks complex  but really it is not hard at all when following the directions. After a little practise I got the hang of it.  Decided to make several Ratoons on my tile. More practise for me.  Since it snowed last night and snow had formed ice crystals on my attic window this morning, I named  my tile "Snowflake Ratoons".

Weekly Challenge #382: Stripes o plenty

This week's challenge is to use a string of stripes.
Done it the easy way, no movement in the tile
but it was just fun tangling on this rainy Sunday.

Tangles used: Knight's Tri, Inlay, Basilica, Square Grid, Nzeppel, Cadent Grid and Florz.

Weekly Challenge #381: "A Happy (new) Medium"

This week's challenge is to try tangling with a medium you haven't tangled with before. the idea what came up first was my Tombow pens I used before my Zentagle period when I was a stamper. these pens have a brush tip and a fine marker in one. I had not used these pens for quite a time and some had dried out but I still could use a few colors. It didn't turn out to my liking.
So another idea popped up. I could use a stamp!! I found a window stamp.
and this is how it turned out.

Weekly Challenge #380: Spundala...Zendala....Zenbuttonz....it's a circle.

Best wishes for 2019!!!

2019 has just started and I noticed that I haven't  participated in  I am the Diva Challenge since 02/13/2015. I haven't done so much tangling lately. I think this will be my New Year's resolution:  picking up Zentangle again.  I read that a third of resolutions don't make it past the first month. Don't let myself get discouraged of that.

Laura, the Diva, leads  her challenge to all Zentangle enthusiasts into her 9th year now.
The first challenge for 2019 will be a circle. She got the idea from a friend who used a paint spinner to make spundala's. I don't have a paint spinner,  I will be looking in thriftstores, maybe I find one and try to use it to add color and have some fun with it with my grandkids.  For now it came out as a plain black and white one.

Weekly Challenge #204: "Valentangle"

Let's get into the Valentine spirit and use a heart as your string or tangle hearts or use colors red white or pink, whatever you like. That is the challenge for this week by the Diva
I used only red, the color of love. I like Arukas and used this tangle to connect  hearts, like Valentine stands for.  I don't believe in only one Valentine's day. Why can’t we celebrate love every day? Nothing makes us happier than loving others and being loved, so why not nurture it and enjoy it each day of the year?

Weekly Challenge #203: "UMT - Athitzi by Seven"

It is the first Monday of the month  and time for a UMT Challenge (Use My Tangle) This time it is brought to us by Seven and the name of the tangle is Athitzi. Drawing little lines, so an easy pattern but  how shall I use it......?
While viewing my friend Carole's online photo album of the Chinese Gardens in Sydney, I got inspired by a picture of a patterned pathway.

(Did you know that  in traditional Chinese gardens the different sizes of stones/pebbles were used to massage the feet?)

This is how my pattern turned out.
I'm not so thrilled with the coloring though...

Weekly Challenge #202: "DuoTangle: Chebucto vs Copada"

This week our task is to create a DuoTangle,  using only the two tangles given.  The two tangles are Chebucto and Copada, which are kind of border tangles. These are not official Zentangle tangles but designed by Margaret Bremner, CTZ.  It was difficult to get a start. I didn't want  to use the tangles in criss-cross lines so I decided to make a circle instead.

Weekly Challenge #201: "Moebius Syndrome Awareness Day 2015"

Saturday January 24th is Moebius Syndrome Awareness Day. Moebius Syndrome is a rare neurological disorder that is present at birth. It primarily affects the 6th and 7th cranial nerves, leaving those with the condition unable to move their faces (they can't smile, frown, suck, grimace or blink their eyes) and unable to move their eyes laterally. More info can be found here.

Laura's son Artoo has this syndrome and the challenge for this week is to raise awareness for this disorder and use the Moebius Syndrome Foundation's logo as your string or use it in another creative thing.

This is my submission for this week:
Tangles used: Zedbra, Knase, Shard, Chebucto, Prestwood, Rain and Paradox.

The color for MSAD is purple, so if you want to support Artoo and all the others with this disorder, consider to wear purple Saturday....

Weekly Challenge #200: "Bi-Zen-Tennial Celebration!"

There is a celebration going on on  "Ï am the Diva" this week !!! Laura has posted 200 challenges for us over the years, starting on December 20, 2010. Thank you so much Laura for the inspiration. Although I don't participate every week, I wanted to submit to this special Bi-Zen-Tennial Celebration.
This week's Challenge is to use your favorite  tangle in a Monotangle and take advantage of the whole tile, so no borders. Also put the number 200 somewhere on the tile...
I thought  Arukas would be a good tangle for this challenge. I love this tangle.

My grandson Owen was visiting and he wanted to participate also. He had so much fun doing this so this is his contribution to the # 200 challenge. but ...he didn't want to add 200.....

Weekly Challenge #187: "String Theory- Blind String"

Back with the challenge after a 5 week hibernating period. We are in the USA right now, staying with my in-laws in South Carolina. They live in a rural area and there is nothing to do, so why not start tangling, just in time for this week's challenge. The weather is nice today, perfect to do it outside with the birdies singing in the background. Now isn't that relaxing?
This weeks challenge is to draw the string with your eyes closed. I got so happy that I forgot to make a picture from the string, but here is my entry for this week:

Tangles used: Matt, Crossroads,Kuginuki,Scraper.

Thank you for reading my post.

Weekly Challenge #182: "Stripes"

Just in time for this week's challenge. It was a busy week. My granddaughter Imane was staying with us for three days and she kept me busy. She likes doing crafts and because we had lots of rain those days, we stayed inside and had fun crafting.  Also  Zentangle came along. She wanted to make a heart as girls always like to draw hearts. Now didn't she do a great job for a first time tangler?

Then it was my time to do the challenge. Sometimes it is nice to do a challenge a second time. That's what we are going to do this week. It will be "stripes", vertical, horizontal, diagonal, just anyway you want to.
Since I live in the Netherlands, which is famous for the flower fields, and volunteering in our local mill, this idea came up to me.
Tangles used: Dansk, Prestwood, Riple, Lettuce Farm, Crescent moon,Cootie, Bubbles, Keeko

Weekly Challenge #180: "UMT - MacDee by Anneke Van Dam"

Missed 2 weeks of the Weekly Challenge but made it back this week. Time again for the-Use-My-Tangle-Challenge. The tangle we try out is MacDee. You can find it here . My first thought was, is this a tangle? How can I use it? But  it is a nice background tangle and I used it with Mak-Rah-Mee .

The tangle she wants us to use is Truffle. She developed this tangle while she was at the CZT seminar where she was inspired by the wallpaper at the hotel. This is my submission:

I might give it some color, will do it later.....

Weekly Challenge # 176 "B.Y.O.B" Bring Your Own Beverage

The Diva (Laura Harmz) is in Washington DC so she has some guest posts lined up for us.
This week guest is Amy from Tennessee. Her challenge for us is to B.Y.O.B.—Bring Your Own Beverage. What has this to do with Zentangle would you say.  Well for myself, I'm always careful not to spill anything on my tiles but this time we are allowed!!! We can just dip, drip, drizzle, drop, dab, sponge, spray, splatter, splash, spill, stamp, stain, pour, wipe, blot, brush, blow,on our tile. This can be coffee, Kool-Aid, cola or whatever beverage you like and... start tangling.
I used beet juice for mine.....

And this is the result:
Tangles used: Chainlea, Poke- and Root Leaves

Thank you Amy for this fun challenge!!

Weekly Challenge # 168 Tangleation Nation: Rain

Last week's challenge was  to use the official tangle pattern Rain. That was a good choice because  it rained here a lot and to be honest...I don't like rain. That must be the reason that I'm not happy with what I made, a bit depressive, but will show it anyway:

A few days later when the sun came out of it's hiding place, I made this one. It turned out better I guess because I was in a happier mood. ;-)

Weekly Challenge #166: UMT

It's time to do a Zentangle again. I have been busy with other projects , which I will show in another post.
Last week  I decided to participate again in the "I am the Diva" challenge after a long absence . It was a UMT challenge. That means "Use My Tangle". The  challenge is to learn and use a tangle created by another Zentangler. This one was created by Laura, the Diva. Place a variety of sizes for the circles and connect them with straight lines. The tangle has no name yet...
