Craft Fair in Zwolle

We went to the craft fair in Zwolle again together with granddaughter Jasmina (11). This was our third time and it is always fun to attend workshops. Leroy stayed behind in the restaurant with his book. It is so funny to see  husbands reading books while their wives are spending money on craft supplies :-) These men have so much patience . We spent 6 hours!!!!

And then we saw these cute monkeys:

from "Zij maakt het".

His name is Jacobus. Jasmina fell in love and wanted to make one. Well Jasmina, you need to learn how to knit first........!!!

I bought the pattern book......:

....and a few days later....taught Jasmina to knit. After three rows she began to complain..."it takes too long".. "Yes, the beginning is difficult and takes time but the more you practice the better you become Jasmina". After the fifth row she stopped; she had enough of it.....

Next: what did Mimi (grandma) do?:........I made one for her:

She was happy....

But then......all the grand kids wanted one even Quincy who is 13!!

So I got hooked on knitting.....

Craft Fair/Handwerkbeurs

 The craft fair (handwerkbeurs) in Zwolle opened its doors again last weekend. Last year Jasmina and I went there for the first time and we had a ball attending workshops and looking at all these fabulous crafts. It makes you want to buy; but I've learnt not to be an impulse buyer so I did alright.

First project: a heart

Here Jasmina learned paper piecing. We both made a label.

Paper piecing is a way of sewing through the lines on paper to do detailed block designs without any cutting of template pieces.

We have been so busy that time slipped by. Before we knew it was closing time, so no time to shoot some pictures of the fair but the two below.

 

Craft Fair

Afgelopen zondag was er de Handwerkbeurs in Zwolle.We hadden nog een NS dagkaart voor twee liggen en die dag was het de laatste dag dat we het kon gebruiken. Het was een dag met veel regen dus perfect om naar de beurs te gaan. Manlief ging mee en ook kleindochter Jasmina (8) was van de partij. Ze knutselt altijd graag met Mimi (ik dus) maar opa is geen knutselaar. Hij had zijn boek meegenomen om in het restaurant op zijn gemak te gaan lezen. Hij was niet de enige man die daar geduldig zat te wachten......
We kwamen aan toen het net open ging en we besloten om maar direkt wat workshops te gaan volgen voordat het te druk werd. Bij de eerste hebben we geleerd hoe te droog vilten. Ik heb vaak prachtige werkstukken gezien van vilt maar had het zelf nog nooit gedaan, dus dit was een kans. Het was leuk om te  doen. Ik heb een schilderijtje met een bloem gemaakt en Jasmina een vilten ei.

Last Sunday there was a craft fair in Zwolle. We still hadn't used our all-Holland day rail ticket for two yet and this was the last day we could use it. It was a rainy day so the fair was a perfect place to go to. Hubby came along and we took granddaughter Jasmina (8) with us. She loves to craft with Mimi (is me) but Grandpa is not a crafter. He took his book with him and spent the day reading in the restaurant. He was not the only man who waited patiently.....
We arrived the time they opened up and we decided to start with  workshops immediately before it got too crowded. The first one we learned how to do dry felting. I have seen  outstanding works of art in wool but never tried it myself. It was fun to do. I made a small felted wool "painting"  and Jasmina made a felt egg.

Daarna zijn we naar de tafel ernaast gegaan waar we het nat vilten leerden en we een bloem konden maken.

After that we went to the table next to us where we learnt how to wet felt and made a flower.

Breien was niet haar favoriete bezigheid. Beetje te moeilijk, ze moet meer de tijd nemen om te oefenen.

Knitting was not her favorite thing. It was a bit too hard, she just needs more practise.

Vervolgens gingen we naar een kinder workshop. Er konden houten doosjes versierd worden, lampenkapjes, fotolijstjes enz. maar zij koos er voor om een broche te maken. Natuurlijk in roze, haar lievelingskleur.

Next we went to a workshop especially for kids. They could decorate wooden boxes, lampshades, pictureframes etc. but she chose to make a flower brooch. Of course in pink, her favorite colour.

Toen zij de broche aan het maken was heb ik een temari bal gemaakt. Ik had er nog nooit van gehoord en op de tafel stond een glazen pot met allemaal mooie temari ballen erin. Proberen dus!!  Het is een Japanse volkskunst. (Oorspronkelijk uit China) Deze ballen werden vroeger voor de kinderen gemaakt door moeders en oma's om mee te spelen. Nu zijn het meer kunstwerkjes.

In the meantime while she was making her brooch I tried my hand on a Temari ball. I had never heard of this art. It's a Japanese folk art. (Originated in China). Na onze creatieve uitspattingen was het tijd om eens rond te kijken op de beurs. Veel quilting, borduren, breien en vilt kraampjes. Het was ontzettend leuk.

After our creative time, we were ready to browse around the fair. A lot of quilting, needlepoint, knitting and felt booths. It was fun.
